INSURANCE & VISION PLANS
Vision plans are a prepaid routine vision benefit, not insurance. They do not cover ‘un-well’ eyes, that is what your medical plan is for. Vision plans are usable once every year or two, once eligibility restores, for routine examination only. They are most useful for families with children.
Major medical insurance DOES cover eye care with any diagnosis beyond refractive error. So those floaters, itchy and red eyes, and any of literally hundreds of other conditions ARE COVERED. Also those patients with systemic disorders such as diabetes and hypertension may utilize their insurance for those parts of their office visit. (What is generally excluded under major medical plans is the Determination of Refraction (92015), which is just one part of a comprehensive eye examination. Patients may be responsible for that part, about $20.) This office is credentialed with and/or will accept assignment with the following:
